Tuition Scholarships
Xavier Catholic Schools is fortunate to award St. Francis Xavier Foundation and local Parish Scholarships to our students and families each year to assist with tuition affordability. These scholarships are awarded outside of our FACTS Financial based tuition grant program. They are merit based and require an application and essay written by the students. The majority do not require a specific financial application.
These tuition scholarships have been created by generous donor families, parishes, and local organizations to support Catholic education. The majority of these funds are set up and managed through our St. Francis Xavier Foundation.
Members of the scholarship donor family or a designated committee receive the written essays and required application documents and make the award selections each year. Please review the scholarships listed below for specific requirements and the link into the on-line application process.
Application process for 2025-2026 begins January 1, 2025 and the

The following scholarships are open to students registered to attend Xavier Elementary School for next school year. To apply, you must use a gmail account, which can be a personal gmail or a school gmail account. Or, use the paper application provided. Students may apply for more than one scholarship and past recipients may reapply each year.
ST. MARY’S SCHOOL / CATHOLIC CENTRAL LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP
To carry on the 150 year old tradition of generosity and fraternity associated with our school community, the St. Mary’s School / Catholic Central Legacy Scholarship has been established in the Xavier Catholic Schools Foundation to help support young families in their decision to send their child(ren) to Xavier Elementary (Pk-4 to 4th grade).
A scholarship will be awarded to an elementary student in each of these three Appleton Parishes. St. Mary Parish, St. Joseph Parish and St. Bernard Parish. The total of each scholarship is $2,000 with $1,000 being awarded the first year and $500 in years two and three in elementary school.
The scholarship will be awarded to one student per family enrolled in a Xavier Elementary School grade Pk4-Grade 4.
Only one scholarship will be awarded per family during the three year award period.
Non selected applicants may reapply each year and a selected family may reapply after year 3 of the scholarship.
Application requirements: Please attach a document including the following information:
- Name of the family including parents first names.
- List your children and indicate grade entering in Xavier Catholic Schools next academic year. If not enrolled enter age of child.
- Describe how your family is active in your parish.
- Describe how your family is active in your community and school.
- Describe how your family will be involved in your parish / school / community in the future.
- Describe why you would like your child(ren) to attend St. Francis Xavier Elementary School.
Tile and save all documents with the name of the scholarship you are applying for and add the name of the student the scholarship is to be applied to. ST. BERNADETTE PARISH K-12 XAVIER SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship committee will award two $500 scholarships to registered St. Bernadette FAMILIES with students entering Xavier Catholic Schools grades K-12 who are actively involved at the parish.
Application requirements: Applicants are asked to submit one application under the name of the oldest student in the family. The following is required:

- Names of each child in the family and indicate grade entering in Xavier Catholic Schools next academic year. If not enrolled enter age of child.
- Essay or listing detailing how you and your family are actively involved at St. Bernadette Parish.

ST. JOSEPH PARISH APPLETON “TUITION SCHOLARSHIP” PROGRAM
Through an anonymous and generous benefactor, St. Joseph Parish is able to offer three $2,500 Catholic school scholarships to K-12 students who are members of St. Joseph Parish. These scholarships serve to encourage families who are considering enrolling their child / children in the St. Francis Xavier School System or are currently enrolled in the system. (These scholarships are also available to families considering enrollment in another Catholic school System).
If you are chosen as a scholarship recipient for the upcoming year you will be offered it for the remaining years at each academic level. If you receive the scholarship in 1st grade it will be guaranteed through 4th grade and the same principle would apply for middle and high school.
Application requirements Please attach a personal Essay describing the following:
- How you and your family are active at St. Joseph Parish.
- How you and your family are active in your community.
- How you and your family will be involved at St. Joseph, Xavier Catholic schools & the community in the future.

FOX VALLEY HEALTH PROFESSIONS SCHOLARSHIP - XMS
A $1,200 scholarship is available to students who attend St. Francis Xavier Middle School and have an interest in science.
Application Requirements: Personal essay – Choose from one of two topics (500 word essay)
- What is the appropriate length of time (per day or per week) for students your age to use technology (cell phones, computers, Xbox, etc.)? How does exceeding this length impact a student's health? Defend your answer.
- Describe some positive choices that you can make today that would impact the health of the environment tomorrow.

FATHER MICHAEL K. O’ROURKE EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP
Must be a registered active member of St. Mary Parish Appleton. Three $500 Middle School Scholarships
Fr. Mike believed strongly in Catholic education, especially the St. Francis Xavier Catholic School System. His last year was spent working to keep all of the system’s elementary schools open – particularly Catholic Central. This scholarship, generated by a Memorial Fund established in Fr. Mike’s name exists to help students from St. Mary Parish, Appleton, WI, who desire an education within the System he held so dear.
Fr. Mike often said that the greatest desire of his life was to be a “window for Jesus”. He believed that we as Christians can be the window through which others could see, feel, and understand the great love God has for each and every person.

- Describe how you would like to be involved in your community/parish/school in the future.
- Essay, art, or media project building on the idea of being a “Window for Jesus”. How do you show others the goodness or love of Jesus in your everyday life?

RALPH AND ETHEL MOEHRING SCHOLARSHIP - Supporting Excellence in Leadership
Open to a registered Xavier High School incoming freshmen. One scholarship for $1,500 per year for four years of high school. Total value = $6,000
This scholarship was established by the Moehring family to support leadership as well as scholarship. As members of the original committee to establish a Catholic high school in Appleton, Mr. and Mrs. Moehring recognized the importance of developing good citizens for church, family and community. Students considered for this scholarship should exhibit strong leadership qualities and goals, in addition to a commitment to their education.
The total value of this scholarship is $6,000 with $1,500 being awarded on a yearly basis as long as that student remains in good standing. Students selected to receive this prestigious scholarship will be considered active Moehring Scholars and will help facilitate The Ethel Moehring Day of Service each year and are expected to assume leadership roles with Xavier High School.

REGIONAL FOX VALLEY COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP
Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to incoming freshmen who live outside of the Appleton Area School District and have not attended Xavier Middle or Elementary School.
The donor family would like to assist families from outside of the Appleton area who choose to make the commitment to travel to Xavier High School for a Catholic education for their children.

THE WEISKE FAMILY VOLUNTEER SCHOLARSHIP
Two $500 scholarships will be awarded through the generous support of the Weiske family to Xavier High School incoming freshman. Their support of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic School System is greatly appreciated. To qualify for this scholarship, the student must have a history of volunteering at their school, church, or greater community.
Application requirements: Please include the following in your essay:
- What have I learned about myself from my volunteer efforts?
- Include a listing of past volunteer experience. (This can expand to page 2)

MERLIN AND JOAN BRUNNER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Open to registered Xavier High School incoming freshmen who are active members of St. Mary Parish, Appleton.
The total value of this scholarship is $4,000 with $1,000 being awarded on a yearly basis as long as that student remains in good standing. The applying student and his or her family must be registered members of St. Mary Parish in Appleton. The scholarship is renewable each year as long as the recipient remains in good standing at XHS and remains an active member of St. Mary Parish for the duration of the award.

- What do you want to be doing ten years from now and how do you plan to attain it – including the contributions you hope to make in your community?

XAVIER PUBLIC ACCESS SCHOLARSHIP
$3000 - $5000 scholarship per year for all four years of high school. This scholarship is generally offered once every 2-4 years.
A donor fund has been established to provide tuition assistance for a student entering Xavier from a public school, having verified financial need and attending Xavier High School. The scholarship will follow the selected student for 4 years as long as their verified financial need continues and the recipient maintains a “B” average.
Application requirements: Please complete the following information:
- Complete and submit the general scholarship application on-line and check the box for Xavier Public Access Scholarship to notify us of your interest. No essay or documents needed to be uploaded.
- Complete the Xavier FACTs tuition assistance application. Link to the FACTS program can be found on the Xavier website under Admissions > Tuition assistance > FACTS Management
Once FACTS applications are completed, they are reviewed on a rolling basis starting in April until a student is selected based on award criteria. The time frame of the final award may change each year based on public school families with interest in the scholarship. The admissions process is fluent with families up until the school year starts. Once awarded, the application process will end. EXPANDING OPPORTUNITIES SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is open to registered Xavier High School incoming freshmen with documented physical and/or learning challenges and financial need. A referral from a middle school teacher, resource teacher or principal is required. One scholarship for up to $5000 per year for four years of high school. This scholarship is offered once every 2-4 years.
The scholarship amount will be based on financial need and determined by a completed FACTS tuition assistance application. Amount available is up to $5000. succeed academically in spite of these challenges. Scholarship would follow the student through his or her 4 years at Xavier as long as financial need continues and the student is working to potential.
Application requirements:
- Letter of recommendation from school principal, classroom teacher, resource teacher or guidance counselor

AGNES M. and JOHN J. Jr. BIESE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Open to registered Xavier High School students who are actively involved in the Christmas Stars or All Rise/NEWPP production. Past recipients may reapply.
One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded through the generous support of the Biese family. Their support of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic School System is greatly appreciated. To qualify for this scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:
- Student has participated in the production of Christmas Stars or NEW Passion Play for a minimum of two years.
- Student has a grade point average above 3.25.
- Student has a history of participating in extracurricular activities.

- A personal essay: How has my experience in Christmas Stars or Passion Play contributed to my overall life experience?
- Attach a listing of extra-curricular activities.

THE THOMAS MEEHL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Thomas Meehl passed away in 2008 and was an avid supporter of Catholic education. His three children attended Xavier. Tom served many people through his career as a financial advisor, his support of his church and Xavier High School. In his honor, the Meehl family is awarding this $1000 scholarship to a student who attends Xavier.

WILLIAM AND MARGERY STILP SCHOLARSHIP
William and Margery Stilp put their six children through Xavier High School – Sarah ’66 (deceased in 1971), Sue ’68, John ’70, Tom ’72, Paul ’76 and Kate ’84. Their five surviving children established this fund in honor and memory of their parents. This scholarship is for $1,000 and will be awarded annually.

THE BRADLEY WILLIAMS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded in memory of Bradley Williams, XHS ‘08. Bradley was a member of the XHS class of 2008 and involved in many school activities. He passed away unexpectedly on the football practice field in September of 2005 as a sophomore.

THE REVEREND DONALD M. ZULEGER SCHOLARSHIP
Open to ALL registered Xavier High School students who are an active member of a catholic church. Four $1,000 scholarships awarded each year.
Application requirements: Please attach the following information
- Personal essay entitled “How can a Catholic education impact your current and future role at your Catholic parish?” written by the applying student. (Minimum 150 words).

Through an anonymous and generous benefactor, St. Joseph Parish is able to offer three $2,500 Catholic school scholarships to K-12 students who are members of St. Joseph Parish. THE ANNA DONNERMEYER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This $500 College Scholarship will be awarded to a Xavier high school senior who has demonstrated service above and beyond the Xavier 20 hour commitment to their local parish, service to their community and treats others in a Christ-like manner.
This scholarship will be awarded in memory of Anna (Vosters) Donnermeyer who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer in 2020. Anna graduated as Valedictorian from Xavier High School in 1990 and went on to graduate from St. Norbert College with high honors. Anna and her husband Brad have three sons Noah, Kolbe, and Lucas and being a wife and mother were her dreams come true.
Anna was a member of St. Thomas More Parish and through her work in young adult and youth ministry touched the lives of countless individuals. Her strong faith and gentle nature allowed her to connect with young people and impact their faith. She was a true Catholic role model who loved her faith community at St. Thomas More as well as her Xavier family. She always treated everyone with kindness and her smile made others feel loved and respected.
The goal of this scholarship is to honor Anna’s memory and to continue to inspire the next generation of faith leaders and parents.

A $1,000 college scholarship will be awarded yearly in memory of Gladys Wisnefski to a high school senior who has excelled in the study of foreign language while at Xavier. Special priority will be given to individuals looking to study foreign language or international affairs at the college level.
Gladys taught at Xavier for 20 years and changed the lives of numerous students, opening up possibilities that previously seemed unimaginable to many. She trained scores of students who went on to become teachers themselves and others who pursued careers that require Spanish language skills. Just as importantly, she taught the history and culture of Spanish-speaking countries, providing an array of opportunities for students to understand and appreciate the world in new ways.

Fr. Mike believed strongly in Catholic education, especially the St. Francis Xavier Catholic School System. His last year was spent working to keep all of the system’s elementary schools open – particularly Catholic Central. This scholarship, generated by a Memorial Fund established in Fr. Mike’s name exists to help students from St. Mary Parish, Appleton, WI, who desire an education within the System he held so dear.
Fr. Mike often said that the greatest desire of his life was to be a “window for Jesus”. He believed that we as Christians can be the window through which others could see, feel, and understand the great love God has for each and every person.

J. JOSEPH and ROSEMARY CUMMINGS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Joe and Rosemary Cummings were lifelong supporters of Catholic education. Rosemary was a dedicated teacher who worked for decades to instill her love of reading into generation after generation of young students. Joe and Rosemary were parents of six XHS graduates and this memorial scholarship fund was established to support students attending Xavier Catholic Schools.
The Cummings family strongly supports the fund allocation to students whose parents are teachers in the Xavier Catholic school system. This aligns with the Cummings family life story and they are happy to be able to offer this opportunity.
Application requirements:
- Applicants must be employed by St. Francis Xavier Catholic School System as a Xavier Elementary or Middle School Teacher or staff member in 2025-2026 to qualify for scholarship. If the awarded teacher / staff members employment ends before May 30, 2026 the scholarship will be prorated based on time employed, No Cash Value.
- Applicants that rotate between the high school and elementary/middle school campus locations should apply based on their “home campus.”

Essays must be written by the applying teacher or staff member. Title and save your essay document with the name of the scholarship you are applying for and on the second line add your initials and campus. Document should be double spaced, minimum 11 point font, maximum 500 word essay. Essays and written materials are to be uploaded during the online application process.
DEACON JAMES and HELEN K. ASMUTH SCHOLARSHIP
Deacon Jim and Helen were lifelong supporters of Catholic education. All seven of their children attended Catholic schools through high school. Five of the seven continued on to graduate from Catholic colleges.
Deacon Asmuth served as board member and later as the president of the boards at Campion Jesuit High School, St. Mary Central, and Sacred Heart Seminary. An important issue throughout his years of service was striving for just salaries for our Catholic school educators.
Helen Asmuth was a regular participant whenever her children were attending Mass throughout their school years. In later years, Helen was very active in church ministry. Being a daily communicant Helen would attend children’s Masses whenever possible. The children at St. Patrick’s Grade School knew her as the “Renew Lady” because of the Renew button she always wore.
The Asmuth family thanks the Xavier High School teachers for their ministry and dedication as Catholic educators! This scholarship is being offered to an educator at St. Francis Xavier High School with the hope that it will lighten the load of tuition, giving the teacher a little more time to enjoy his/her children’s Catholic education.
May God bless the Xavier High School teachers and keep them, which they may be happy in this life, and blessed forever in the life to come.

Dennis and Carla Oudenhoven Memorial Fund - Xavier High School Excellence in Education Grant
Up to $1000 grant is available to Xavier High School Faculty to enhance their departments or individual curriculum or classrooms. Application opens March 1.
Dennis taught at Xavier High School for 32 years and dedicated his life to making a difference in the lives of thousands of students.
This grant is available to Xavier High School Faculty to enhance their departments or individual curriculum or classrooms with a focus on improving the education/experience of the students. Grant applications are not to exceed $1,000 and grant funds are independent of budget allocation. The number of grants funded each year will be dependent on available funds from the Dennis and Carla Oudenhoven Fund. The Oudenhoven family will review the applications and choose the grants to be funded.
Grant Application requirements:
- Applicants must be employed by St. Francis Xavier Catholic School System as a Xavier High school faculty member in 2025-2026 to qualify for the grant.
- All purchased grant materials are the property of Xavier Catholic Schools. If the awarded teacher’s employment ends before May 30, 2026 and the grant has not been spent, the unused portion of the grant will be returned to the grant fund. No Cash Value.

Gant Applications must be completed by the applying teacher or staff member and signed by the principal.
Grant Applications will be accepted from: March 1, 2025 to March 27, 2025.
Fine Arts Scholarship Opportunity
The following scholarship is available from Christmas Stars.
Christmas Stars Fine Arts Scholarship - Christmas Stars, sponsored by the St. Francis Xavier Catholic School System, provides scholarships to assist St. Francis Xavier students participating in enrichment experiences related to their fine arts activities.
Students may apply for financial help to attend a camp, workshop, lessons or courses that will assist them in improving their skills in music, drama, dance or art; or funds can be used to pay fees such as Orchestra, Band or Chorus Fees. Scholarships will be awarded based upon the number of applications, the quality of the applications, available funds and possibly on financial need. If you are awarded a scholarship, the amount will be reimbursed to you upon completion of the fine arts activity. If you have applied for a scholarship to help pay for band, chorus, or orchestra fees, your account will automatically be credited the scholarship amount.

Ave Maria Court #1011 Catholic High School Scholarship - Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to Catholic students registered at a Catholic High School for the 23-24 academic year. Application Due: May 1, 2023
National Court Incoming Freshman Scholarship - The National Court will award two $1000 scholarships to Catholic 8th grade students registered in 9th grade at a Catholic High School for the 23-24 academic year. Application Due: April 1, 2023
