The St. Francis Xavier Elementary art program offers students an opportunity to explore the basics of art, art history, various art mediums, and learn important life skills. With each project, students learn and apply basic terminology associated with the color wheel, elements of design, and the principles of design. In addition, the students look at famous artworks and explore the styles of many famous artists. As students learn these basic art skills, they are also learning basic life skills such the ability to problem-solve, fine motor coordination, creativity, and expression. Elementary art is a time for exploration. Students have the opportunity to explore a variety of art mediums which may include clay, tempra paint, watercolor, and drawing. We look forward to unlocking your child's creative side!
The St. Francis Xavier Elementary general music program offers students an opportunity to explore and experience the world of music through singing, playing instruments, performing, listening, creating and through the use of music literacy, music history and movement. With each piece of music and activity students are able to learn and experience different aspects of music – rhythm, pitch, melody, timbre and form. We also explore musical instruments, genres, eras and the works of famous composers. Our goal in general music is to create in our students a lifelong love, understanding and appreciation of music.
The Xavier Elementary Band Program inspires and prepares our students to realize their potential and enhance their global community. The study of music fosters artistic development, critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and the pursuit of life-long learning. Through performing and responding to music, all students develop individual skills, realize a sense of belonging, and establish connections to the community.
" Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world." - Martin Luther
The Xavier Catholic Schools elementary orchestra program provides 4th grade students with a valuable and high quality musical experience where they will learn to listen and play as an ensemble. The program encourages personal discipline while advancing the critical links among music study, academic achievement and positive growth and development.
The major goal of beginning orchestra (violin, viola, cello and string bass) is to provide a solid base of musical skills and techniques while providing an opportunity for students to have fun making music with others. This is accomplished through weekly lessons, large group rehearsals and recitals and concerts. They will learn musical notation as it applies to their instrument, become increasingly familiar with simple rhythms, key signatures, dynamic markings and much more.
